Welcome to Ralph’s Cactus. Ralph has grown a selection of cacti and succulents for you, his

“Top 100 Succulents”

Ralph and Opuntia ficus indica

Welome to Ralph’s Cactus

Many plants here will be rare and hard to source elsewhere, to include something for everyone. My selection will include both cacti (The prickly ones) and the “other” Succulents.

So you will find plants such as Cacti for south-facing, sunny windowsills and plants which like sun for half a day.

You will find plants for Conservatories, Greenhouses and even ones which will grow all year outdoors in the UK – in particular Prickly Pears, Aloe and Agave.

Some are hanging plants, such as String of Beads, Monkey Tail and Rat’s Tail. We have some easy-flowering such as Rebutia, Orchid Cacti and Echinopsis .

In addition we have some with medicinal properties, in particular Aloe, Bulbine and Echinopsis.

Also, Ralph has produced hybrids of his own, in particular with Epiphyllums, Echinopsis, Aporocactus and Echeveria which are not available elsewhere.

Have a look around and enjoy.

WHY GROW CACTI AND SUCCULENTS?

Indoors

Succulent plants (including Cacti) adapt well to living with us in our warm, dry, double-glazed environments. They have evolved over millions of years to survive in arid environments, so they can take a lot of neglect. In other words, they are ideal for today’s hectic lifestyle, where it can be difficult to find time for plant care.

Succulent plants can be left for long periods and they will survive. A customer of mine told me once that he watered his cactus only once a year (On Christmas Day!) – and it had lived with him for ten years! This is rather extreme, but you can certainly leave your cactus for a month or two if you are going away for a while.

In your home, succulents not only look good and help you to feel closer to nature, but they are helping to purify the air that you breath – removing many toxic elements from modern living.

Conservatories

Cacti and succulents in conservatories will survive where most other plants will not. In particular, they can produce more flowers than they will indoors.

Greenhouses

In greenhouses, larger plants can be grown and those of us who like to expand their collections are able to do so.

Outdoors

With the rising environmental temperature, an increasing number of succulents can now be grown outdoors in the United Kingdom. This would have been impossible even thirty years ago.

An outdoor succulent bed can add a low maintenance, tropical look to your garden.
